While Novak Djokovic etched history by becoming the first male player to win three majors in a single calendar year four times in his career. Additionally, he levelled with Margaret Court’s all-time mark for most Grand Slam titles won in tennis history.
However, it wasn’t only Novak Djokovic who shone for his country Serbia. The Serbian basketball team also finished as runner-up after losing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup final against Germany. But in recent video surfacing on social media, the runners-up side and Novak, both received a warm welcome in Belgrade to build onto the momentous celebrations.
But the 36-year-old was seen break down in tears as part of this celebration, getting overwhelmed at the sight of the city celebrating his US Open win. The video also saw Nikola Milutinov, one of the star players from Serbia along with Nikola Jovic and Bogan Bogdanovic, hugging and consoling the star.
It is to be noted that Nikola Jokic wasn’t a part of Team Serbia for the 2023 FIBA World Cup due to a long season in NBA but earned praise from his fellow countryman. “Nikola Jokic is the best basketball player in the world at the moment. Incredible guy. Everyone is so amazed with his skills, what he does on basketball court,” Djokovic quoted calling him as one of the biggest fans of Jokic.
