The Premier League 2021-22 kicked off on Friday in some style as newly-promoted Brentford FC stunned everyone on their return to top-flight. There was an electric atmosphere at the Brentford Community Stadium as the club was playing their first-ever top-flight game after a long wait of 74 years. It was an emotional evening for the club supporters and it seemed to have quite a huge effect on the players.
Brentford put on a spectacular show as they completely outplayed Arsenal during the match. Sergi Canos opened the scoring with a brilliant strike in the 22nd minute as the stadium erupted with joy. Although the Gunners tried their best to pave their way back into the match, they could never recover from the early blow as Christian Nørgaard's 73rd minute header sealed a historic win for Brentford.
Emotional evening for Brentford fans and players
It was quite an emotional evening for all the Brentford fans as most of them were watching their team playing in Premier League for the first-time ever. However, there were some elderly fans in the crowd as well, who had probably waited 74 years for this day.
Among the group of passionate fans, one old Brentford fan was seen in tears at the full-time as he celebrated a famous win for the Bees over Arsenal. The sigh of relief and happiness on his face just reflected how much it meant to club's supporters.
The fans were electric: Thomas Frank
Brentford's coach Thomas Frank was undoubtedly delighted with the performance of his players as they scripted an outstanding victory against Arsenal. Reflecting on the game, he said, "I am very proud and privileged to be part of a fantastic group of players, fantastic group of staff members. I had this feeling [before the game] that I would be disappointed if we didn’t beat them. It’s a historical evening and it is crazy we opened the Premier League season with a win."
The 47-year-old added that they were unbelievably aggressive in the high pressure and pressed with massive intensity, more or less throughout the game. Thomas Frank was delighted with the atmosphere at the stadium as he acknowledged them for their incredible support throughout the evening. Talking about them, he said, "The fans were electric, they created an unbelievable atmosphere."
