On Saturday, January 4, India came back into the game, bundling out Australia at 181 in 51 overs and posting a lead of 145 runs at the end of day two’s play at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball, picking six wickets among themselves, Rishabh Pant played a quickfire knock of 61 off 33 deliveries to put them back in the game.

Amid all the drama at the SCG, Team India was handed a blow as their senior Indian pacer and stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was forced to leave the field in the second session of the day. While Bumrah bowled a quick four-over spell, he bowled another short spell of three overs. However, he returned to the field after lunch, but walked out after bowling just one over with mounting injury concerns in the Indian camp and Virat Kohli replacing him at the helm in the Sydney Test.

Jasprit Bumrah has a back spasm: Prasidh Krishna confirms Bumrah’s injury

Although, not much was known about Jasprit Bumrah’s injury, Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna shared an update after the end of day two’s play in Sydney. Speaking at the press conference, Prasidh said that the medical team is monitoring him and his reports will come out later in the day.

"Jasprit Bumrah has a back spasm. He went for scans. The medical team is monitoring him and we will know when the results arrive,” Prasidh said. Earlier a source told India Today, "Bumrah was taken to a hospital in the Centennial Park area in Sydney. He has been taken to St Vincent's Hospital. He has a back issue and that is being scanned right now. The team will get the report by evening."

It is to be noted that Jasprit Bumrah has played all five matches in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. After picking two wickets in the ongoing Test in Sydney, Bumrah took his tally to 32 wickets, the highest ever by an Indian bowler against Australia, breaking the record previously held by late Bishan Singh Bedi, who had taken 31 wickets in 1977-78 series.
