During a highly anticipated Ligue 1 clash against Monaco at the Stade Louis II, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), goal-keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered a horrific injury to his face at the hands of opposition defender Wilfried Singo, who had went boot first into a challenge. After being replaced in goal by his teammate Matvey Safonov, the medical personnel had to put 10 staples to close the wounds on the right side of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s face.
Notably, the challenge from Wilfried Singo on Gianluigi Donnarumma happened in the 22nd minute of the first half, which led to the Monaco defender only receiving a yellow card because his attempt to get the ball wasn’t deemed intentional but reckless. PSG manager Luis Enrique was seemingly dodging the question on whether Wilfried Singo should have gotten punished for blooding up his team’s goal-keeper at the Stade Louis II.

The players don't intend to hurt. It's difficult to referee this kind of match: Luis Enrique
In his post-match interview after PSG defeated Monaco 4-2, to go 10 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 standings, Luis Enrique admitted that it isn’t easy to referee the kind of situation like Gianluigi Donnarumma found himself in. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC, “The refereeing decisions? I can't do anything, I couldn't see the action, but when you see an action like that it's always difficult. The players don't intend to hurt. It's difficult to referee this kind of match, I'm not talking about the refereeing work.”
Moreover, in a highly entertaining Ligue 1 match, Paris Saint-Germain were down 1-2 at one stage with Eliesse Ben Seghir's penalty and Breel Embolo's strike after Desire Doue in the second half opened the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute. But then, Ousmane Dembele brought them on level terms in the 64th minute before his goal in the second half injury time put the contest beyond Monaco, while the goal from Goncalo Ramos in the 83th minute had put PSG ahead.
Paris Saint-Germain, who are undefeated in Ligue 1 after 16 matches, have a lead of 10 points over Marseille and Monaco, with the latter having a game in hand.
