Following the conclusion of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane, which ended in a draw, Australia and India are level at 1-1 with two games remaining in the series. After scoring a ton earlier in the BGT, Virat Kohli has stumbled into another lean patch with the bat, one of his female fans took to Instagram to share an emotional poem about their favourite player, wanting him to return back to his best down under.

Notably, in the second innings of the first BGT Test, which was played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Virat Kohli smashed his 30th hundred in the longest format of the game, to set-up an emphatic win by 295 runs for India against Australia. Apart from this innings, the other four scores for Virat Kohli in the series read 5, 7, 11, 3, which is quite grim for a player of his stature, especially in a place like Australia, where he has dominated the hosts over the last decade or so.

Virat Kohli has scored just 126 runs in five innings in first three BGT Tests including one hundred

After watching her idol Virat Kohli through an elongated tough phase with the bat in Test cricket, scoring just one hundred and one fifty in his last 15 innings this season, the female fan reminisced the days when he took down the Australian bowlers with great regularity. She remarked that the Virat Kohli’s favourite vacation place is Australia, but now, it has become a damp squib for him as he chases the “forbidden fruit,” i.e. the ball, around the fifth stump, which has led to his downfall on many occasions.

With his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin taking a sudden retirement from international cricket after performing below his best standards in the last few Test matches for India, it will be very interesting to see what’s next in Virat Kohli’s career trajectory going into the year 2025. There are still two Test matches remaining in the BGT series at the turn of the year, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 before the Indian cricket team travels to England to play the five-match Test series next summer.

The fourth BGT Test between Australia and India will kick-start at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday, December 26, also known as Boxing Day, with the series hanging in the balance.
