Dinesh Karthik, who had hinted that the ongoing IPL season would be his last, bowed out of the 2024 edition of the tournament after Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost to Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator. Although the 38-year-old didn’t confirm anything about his IPL retirement, he received a guard of honour from his RCB teammates, following which the RR players also clapped him off the ground.
The digital broadcaster of the IPL, JioCinema, took to their official X account to share a tribute post for Dinesh Karthik, who is a one-time IPL winner with Mumbai Indians in 2013. They mentioned how DK inflicted the second-most dismissal behind the stumps in the IPL, along with making the third-most appearances in the illustrious history of the tournament.
When Dinesh Karthik was walking back towards the dugout after RR defeated RCB in the IPL 2024 Eliminator, his teammates gave him a guard of honour. The moment was quite overwhelming for the 38-year-old, who was struggling to contain his emotions in front of everyone at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Moments later, as Dinesh Karthik made his way into the RCB dugout, the RR players were spotted clapping for him, paying tribute to the Indian cricketer for his immense contributions to the IPL over the years. The official X account of the Rajasthan Royals posted a clip of the moment, captioning it, “Thank you, Dinesh Karthik. Well fought, RCB.”
Notably, Dinesh Karthik has established himself as a prominent voice in the cricketing commentary world in the last couple of years apart from playing domestic and franchise cricket. It is something the Chennai-born cricketer is expected to pursue after his playing days are over.
