Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who is associated with Punjab Kings (PBKS) as head coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, is looking to help the 2014 runners-up to guide them to their first coveted trophy while collaborating with Shreyas Iyer, who is the leader of the pack. With Ponting and Shreyas at the helm, Punjab started their campaign with a 11-run win in their opening match against the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in a match played at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on March 25.

Ponting is accompanied by his son Fletcher William Ponting. A couple of days ahead of Punjab’s next clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Ponting imparted training to his son Fletcher. In a video doing rounds on social media, the Aussie’s son can be seen imitating his father to play some exquisite strokes. Confronting his father’s delivery, Fletcher also played a pull shot and cover drive, which took ardent cricket buffs back to the era when Ponting used to reign world cricket with his batting exploits. The clip of the father-son duo is getting love and respect from avid cricket fans.

Formidable Punjab will take on confident LSG on April 1

PBKS will strive to be at their best against LSG at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 1. However, the task won’t be easy for the visiting team as Lucknow proved themselves with their stellar performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 27.

Chasing 191 runs comfortably in 16.1 overs against the Orange Army, LSG bagged a convincing five-win and also opened their account on the points tally. The scintillating victory also boosted Lucknow’s net run rate. Punjab will be wary of the hosts as they will pose a stiff challenge for Shreyas Iyer and his men.
