Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid manager, has testified in a Spanish court over tax evasion charges with the prosecutors seeking a prison term of four years and nine months apart from a fine of €3.2 million. The 65-year-old has been accused of failing to pay €1 million in tax on his salary from the club during his first stint as Real Madrid manager from 2013 to 2015.
Notably, as per the report published in BBC Sport, Carlo Ancelotti is facing an accusation in regards to paying tax only on his salary while omitting income from image rights on his returns from nearly a decade ago. The second stint as manager of Real Madrid for the Italian began in 2021, and since then, he has taken the Galacticos to newer heights.

Carlo Ancelotti talked about never thinking of committing fraud, and during the hearing at the Provincial Court of Madrid, he spoke about everything being in order for him in regard to his salary. The veteran manager said that when he got offered a net salary of €6 million by Real Madrid, he let his financial advisors decide the structure of it.
“I thought it was quite normal because at that time all the players and the previous coach had [done the same]. For coaches [image rights] don't mean the same as they do for players because they don't sell shirts,” Ancelotti added. Moreover, the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were fined €252,000 in 2017 and €18.8 million in 2019 respectively to settle their tax cases in Spain.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho was fined €2.2 million in relation to tax charges during his time as the manager of Real Madrid in the 2011-12 season.
