India are carrying their form from the three-match T20I series to the ODIs as well and many examples to prove the same came pretty early in the 1st ODI. After winning the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first. Sharma’s decision was proved right by his two new-ball bowlers, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah right away. The two pacers started wreaking havoc from the first over itself.
Mohammed Shami started the proceeding for India with the ball and bowled some tight lines to Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow in the first over. He was backed really well by Jasprit Bumrah who cleaned up Roy in the second over to draw the first blood. The second blow also came quickly for England as Bumrah surprised Root with a jaffa in the second over of the England innings.
The wickets kept coming for India as Shami got Ben Stokes in his next over with another beauty of a delivery. With three wickets down, it was up to Bairstow and captain Jos Buttler to see off these two bowlers who were spitting venom. But the task seemed too tough for Bairstow who also nicked one from Bumrah. However, as good as the delivery was from Bumrah, the catch from Rishabh Pant behind the sticks was equally good.
In the sixth over of the England innings, Bumrah bowled a brilliant delivery that straightened up a bit after pitching. Bairstow who felt for it could only manage an outside edge. With pace aplenty on the ball, it flew quickly off the outside edge of Bairstow and was travelling quickly towards the first slip. However, Rishabh Pant dived to his right and grabbed a one-handed stunner to send Bairstow packing.
