Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) stand-in captain Riyan Parag was censured for his attitude on the field after his team’s six-run win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Defending 182 runs successfully, the Royals witnessed the heroics of their star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who clinched 4/35 figures in his four overs. Earlier, Nitish Rana played an exquisite knock of 81 off 36 and helped RR to post a heavy total on the board. Rana won the player of the match (POTM) award for his contribution to his team’s first win of the competition.
Under Parag’s leadership, Rajasthan won their first match of the season and opened their account on the points table. Following the game, the stand-in skipper Parag posed for a picture with ground staff. After clicking the image, the 23-year-old, instead of handing the phone, lofted it towards a staff member to grab it. However, Parag’s behaviour didn’t go well with fans on social media as they reprimanded the youngster and advised him to learn some basic manners.
You have to learn many things as a player: Fans slam Parag for dispensable attitude
Parag’s behaviour caused ire among social media users and they didn’t shy away from trolling the Guwahati-born player. An X user with the name SmithianEra posted the clip of the incident and wrote, “Riyan Parag you have to learn many things as a player also.”
Parag, donning the captaincy role, succeeded in delivering the first win of the season to RR but as a batter, he hasn’t performed upto the mark. In three outings, he has scored only 37 runs at an egregious average of 22.00. After winning against CSK, the Royals will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali on April 5.
