Indian skipper Rohit Sharma faced a fiery spell from star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the nets ahead of the second Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test. Notably, India will lock horns with Australia in the second game of the five-match series at Adelaide Stadium starting on December 6. The forthcoming match will be a day/night Pink-ball Test. Ahead of the game, the Indian side was seen sweating it out and preparing hard in the nets.
Ahead of the game, the Indian skipper, who missed the first Test due to the birth of his son, was seen facing Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, in the Perth Test, Bumrah shouldered the responsibility of captain and led the side to a stunning 295-run win by delivering a heroic performance. This will be Rohit’s first BGT Test of the season, and he would aim to find his form back and guide the side to a 2-0 win in the series.
Cheteshwar Pujara backs Jasprit Bumrah to replace Rohit Sharma as Test captain
Veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara backed Jasprit Bumrah to be the next Indian skipper and lead the Test side by replacing Rohit Sharma. He spoke to ESPN Cricinfo and said, “He is (a long-term captaincy option) without any doubt. The way he has shown that in difficult circumstances when we had a tough series at home and when you are playing a first Test match in Australia and to put up a show like that.”
Pujara added, “I think he has the capability of leading the team and he’s a team’s man. You look at him, he never only talks about himself, he talks about the team, the other players. What advice would he give?” Pujara also lauded Bumrah and said, “There are times when players don’t need advice and he accepts it, he says that... if there is an experienced player he will keep quiet. That is the sign of a good captain.”
He concluded by saying, “He is very down to earth, very friendly with players in the dressing room, and eager to help and he is a good person to chat with. Even outside of cricket, he has a humble personality,”
