Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, was at a promotional event in the USA recently, where the fans started to heckle him with the “Mitchell Starc” chants from nowhere. After the host asked the crowd to be respectful towards the Indian cricketer, the 37-year-old responded to them in his nonchalant style, stating “Calm down, guys.”

Notably, during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma tore into Mitchell Starc in the Super 8 match at the Daren Sammy International Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia. He scored 29 runs off one over from the Australian fast bowler, to set up a commanding first innings total for India, which they managed to defend successfully.

In a viral video on social media, the fans could be seen chanting the name of Mitchell Starc towards Rohit Sharma, which led to the host saying, “One second. One second. Guys. Be respectful, please.” It led to the Indian T20 World Cup-winning captain saying, “Calm down, guys,” which drew a loud cheer in the room.

Moreover, Rohit Sharma, who announced his T20I retirement after captaining India to a T20 World Cup triumph, will continue to be an integral feature in the ODI and Test formats for the national team. According to the BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, the 37-year-old will captain India in the Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship 2025 final.

There have been rumours about Rohit Sharma captaining India in the upcoming three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, which will be his first 50-overs international after losing the World Cup last year at home.
