Tennis legend Serena Williams was on fire as the host of the 2024 ESPYs as she trolled sev eral of her sporting colleagues hilariously. The 23-time Grand Slam champ sparred with no one from LeBron James to even Canadian rapper Drake by reminding him about Kendrick Lamar. But one of her biggest highlights from the night was a song she performed for her on-court rival Maria Sharapova.
Willians and Sharapova were among the best during their careers and often budded heads. However, the duo never had a competitive rivalry as the American dominated her Russian opponent with 20 wins from 22 matches. So at the ESPYs, Serena Williams decided to perform a rendition of a Jaime Foxx song in honour of Maria Sharapova.
Serena trolls Maria Sharapova with ‘She Could Be My Tennis Ball’ song
The song was ‘She Could Be My Tennis Ball’ and Serena sang, "She could be my tennis ball, tennis ball. She's Russian, blonde, and very tall, very tall. People said we had a feud, had a feud, which was presumptuous and kind of rude. Besides that, I beat her 20 times Just one thing clear, don't have to rhyme She always gave me her best shot We were like the guys in Challengers, but way more high So let me put this on the record, y'all That she could be my tennis ball. This is a little unprofessional, but excuse me. Oh, hey, Maria. Oh, you saw it?"
Despite their rivalry, they share a strong bond and mutual respect between them. Earlier this year Maria Sharapova was heard singing, “Serena, where are you?” when she failed to find her at the Met Gala. Further Williams also spoke about her relationship with Sharapova during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. She revealed, “We always love seeing each other. At the Met Gala, I literally was looking for her. I was like, “Where’s Maria? Where is she at?” I think she’s a super cool girl.”
