Despite being one of the greatest centers the sport has ever seen, Shaquille O’Neal had one aspect of his game that he couldn’t quite get right during his playing days: the free throw. This is something that the NBA legend can’t live down to this day, and he most recently had to watch an old woman coach him and improve his form.

In the video, the old woman can be schooling him telling him she knows “why his free throws aren’t going through, and that he should follow through with his form”. The camera then switches to a bemused looking Shaq who jokingly responds by mouthing what the woman said to him.

Shaq’s free throws continue to haunt him

Despite his iconic career, the dreaded free throw is something that Shaq still has to live with not being great at - and people don’t seem to let him forget.

The 7’1 player spent 19 seasons in the NBA and peaked at converting 62.2% of his throws in the 2002-03 season. Through his long career he managed an average of just 52.7%. The Big Diesel attempted 10.8 throws a game during the latter stages of his career.

Shaq attempted 22 three pointers during his career in the NBA, and only managed to score one, which came during the 1995-96 season where he scored a buzzer beater. He missed an astounding 5317 free throws overall.

This was not due to any lack of practice either, as Shaq stated before that he would not leave training unless he made 200 makes from the free throw line every session. Unfortunately this didn’t translate to anything special during the games, and is something the NBA icon has to deal with even after he has left the NBA.
