The Lanka Premier League is undergoing its fourth edition. The inaugural game of the season saw Jaffna Kings taking on the Colombo Stars on July 30, Sunday. In the second match of the tournament, Galle Gladiators locked horns with Dambulla Giants on July 31, Monday at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, something unexpected happened during the Dambulla Giants’ innings and a snake was spotted on the ground, bringing the game to a halt.
It was during Giants’ innings, a snake was spotted on the ground near the boundary. The incident took place in the fourth over, while Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera were batting at four and 20, respectively. The team’s score read 27 runs and the Giants had already lost two batters by then.

The game started with Dambulla winning the toss and inviting their rivals to bat first. In return, the Dasun Shanaka-led team put up a score of 180 runs at the loss of five wickets. In return, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis opened the innings for their team. However, no one of them managed to stay for long and both were forced to return back to the pavilion after scoring one run each.
Giants’ batter Silva ended his knock after scoring 43 runs off 31 deliveries, that came with a combination of five boundaries and one maximum. On the flip side, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was Gladiators’ highest run scorer, as he managed to hit 48 runs off 34 deliveries, with a combination of five fours and two maximums.
