Seven wrestlers, including a national-level player were beaten at a sports academy in Gurugram early on Wednesday, April 10. In a viral CCTV footage of the incident, a group of 20 men, who were armed with sticks were seen entering the wrestling arena of a sports academy in Gurugram and barraged attacks on the wrestlers practicing at the venue.
As reported by the Times of India, the group barged into the academy after a road altercation. After this incident, which is said to happen on Wednesday morning at around 6:35 am, according to the CCTV footage, at least four wrestlers were left injured. And among the four of them, two of them have been hospitalised with concussions, wounds on head and fractures.
The CCTV footage also show some of them pushing two men to the ground and thrashing them. After this horrific incident, one man was also seen using his t-shirt to stop bleeding from his head. In the latest turn to this event, the police has filed a FIR and started their investigation into the matter.
“An FIR was registered. We will take further action after getting medico-legal certificates from the hospital,” SHO Bijender said. Moreover, the police has booked the accused under IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention).
Furthermore, Lokesh, who is a trainee said in his complaint that he was talking with other wrestlers towards Nav Shakti Wrestling Academy, when two men on motorcycle intercepted them. “An altercation ensued between us, but my friends and I reached the academy for our regular practice. Later, these individuals along with their associates arrived at the academy and assaulted me and my friends with sticks, also threatening our lives,” he said as quoted by TOI.
