With the tenth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) underway in the Indian neighbouring country Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal hosted the Rangpur Riders in the third match. The match was held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
While Iqbal’s Barishal came out on top with a five-wicket win, the match was all the more important as it was first on-field confrontation between Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. While Iqbal missed a place in the 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup last year in India, it was Shakib Al Hasan who led the side.
Speaking after his team’s win in the BPL, the Bangla batter was asked if he had a word with teammate Shakib Al Hasan. “No, we did not talk. I don’t think this question is important. You all know about it. Why do you keep on poking? If you have to ask something then ask him,” Tamim Iqb al said.
He however added that when he meets him, he will talk. “I haven’t met either of them yet, but when I meet them obliviously, we will talk. Let’s see,” he quoted. It is to be noted these comments come after Shakib criticised Iqbal, accusing him of childish behaviour after the latter asking to not pick him for the marquee event in India.
While Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal will take on Khulna Tigers in Match 6 of the BPL on Monday, 22 January, the Rangpur Riders, the team which features Shakib Al Hasan will take on Sylhet Strikers in Match 7 on Tuesday, 23 January.
