MS Dhoni, the Indian cricketing legend, spoke in detail about his relationship with his former teammate Virat Kohli in the national setup. The 43-year-old remarked that playing with Virat Kohli for India was “a lot of fun,” but at the same time, he admitted to not meeting him very often after he retired from international cricket in 2020.
Notably, during their successful partnership at the international level, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli managed to win the ODI World Cup in 2011, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. Dhoni handed the captaincy of the ODI and T20I format to Kohli in 2017 in one of the smoothest leadership transfers in the history of Indian cricket.
Virat Kohli has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket: MS Dhoni
While speaking at a promotional event, MS Dhoni hailed Virat Kohli as one of the best cricketers in the world, while remembering the time when they batted together for the Indian cricket team. He said, as per the Hindustan Times, “We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun.”
The former ODI World Cup-winning captain also alluded to his relationship with Virat Kohli after retiring from international cricket, and said, “It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship,” said the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper.”
Moreover, MS Dhoni is still an active cricketer on the franchise scene, playing for Chennai Super Kings in the recently concluded IPL 2024 season. His availability for the next IPL season isn’t certain, but the fans will hope to see him in action on the cricket field next year.
