Australia beat India with a massive 209-run margin to lift the World Test Championship 2023 mace at The Oval in India. The Indian side led by Rohit Sharma finished as runners-up for the second consecutive time after having lost to New Zealand in 2021. The Kangaroos maintained their dominance in the ‘Ultimate Test’ from first day play, and even though the Indian side tried hard to change the momentum, things didn’t favour them in the end. Meanwhile, there was one particular incident that caught limelight for all the wrong reasons, and the Indian captain finally broke his silence on it.

India got its first setback during its chase against the Kangaroos in the final came in the form of Shubman Gill’s controversial dismissal. Gill was dismissed in a catch by Cameron Green on the first ball of the second over in their second innings. Gill was given out by the third umpire Richard Kettleborough. However, the Indian skipper and Gill weren’t convinced with the decision.
After their loss in the WTC Final, Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma finally broke his silence on it and said that despite being an ICC tournament, there wasn’t any ultra motion or zoom in angle shown. Addressing the press, he said, "We've 10 different angles in the IPL, I don't know why there wasn't any ultra motion or zoom in angle shown during Shubman Gill's dismissal.”
Notably, the dismissal created a huge controversy among the fans as many were of the opinion that Green didn’t collect the ball cleanly and that it touched the ground.
