Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League in December, going down against Aston Villa 2-1 on their trip to Villa Park just days after losing to Manchester United in the derby. Following their recent loss, the 53-year-old was quite calm in the press conference before he talked about how some of his players have “incredible pride and desire,” and they will have to find a way to make a comeback step by step.
In the first half, Jhon Duran scored the opening goal for Aston Villa in the 16th minute after Morgan Rodgers gave him an unselfish pass off a through ball from Youri Tielemans. Aston Villa got a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute when captain John McGinn’s pass was latched on to by Morgan Rodgers before a low hard shot from him went into the back of the net past the Manchester City goal-keeper.
Manchester City have gotten only four points in last eight Premier League matches
Phil Foden scored his first goal of the season for the defending champions Manchester City in the second half added time, but it wasn’t enough as they went down 1-2. In the last eight matches in the Premier League, Manchester City have picked up just four points, winning one, drawing one, and losing six, which is equal to Southampton’s performances for the same period at the foot of the table.
In the press conference, a calm Pep Guardiola spoke about the potential solutions to Manchester City’s current slump in all competitions, winning just one match in the last couple of months. He was quoted as saying, “It depends on us. The solution is bring the players back. We have just one central defender fit, that is difficult. We are going to try next game - another opportunity and we don't think much further than that.”
The Spaniard also divulged on how they have won the Premier League in recent times before trusting his players to eventually come good in the 2024-25 season. He was quoted as saying, “Last season we won the Premier League, but we came here and lost. We have to think positive and I have incredible trust in the guys. Some of them have incredible pride and desire to do it. We have to find a way, step by step, sooner or later to find a way back.”
