One of the most epic comeback stories in modern football has been that of Brazilian winger Antony. Antony was signed by Manchester United for a staggering 86 million pound fee during the 2022 summer transfer window. The winger was brought in to reunite with his former boss at Ajax; Erik Ten Hag. However he failed to live up to the expectations around him ever since signing for the Red Devils. After being excluded from the squad by new manager Ruben Amorim, Antony was sent out to Spanish club Real Betis on a loan move in January 2025.

And a change of scenery has really breathed new life into the 25-year old winger’s performances as he has scored 4 goals and given 4 assists in 12 games for his new suitors. Ever since his arrival in La Liga, fans have really backed Antony and appreciated his good performances with the club. Now a question looms over the future of Antony as he is set to go back to Manchester United in June 2025 at the end of his current loan spell and it will be interesting to see whether Betis approaches the Manchester outfit for a permanent move for the forward.

Betis come-back from behind to get derby win against Sevilla

Speaking about the possibility of getting Antony to the club on a permanent transfer, club team-mate Isco joked about the finances of the possible move. Antony had moved to United on a big-money deal and the club will expect at least a close-by amount to offload the player. And this could be a big ask for a club like Real Betis.

Talking about the same, Isco said, “We’ll have to do crowdfunding to bring Antony in.” highlighting the possible high transfer fee that United might demand for the player. Betis recently came off a derby win against Sevilla are in 6th place in the league table and in contention for an European spot for next season.
