Following a 2-1 win in the three-match ODI series against England, the West Indies will next lock horns in a five-match T20I series, starting from Saturday, November 9. Prior to the T20I series, the Cricket West Indies on Friday, November 8 announced their 15-member squad, which will see Rovman Powell return at the helm.
However, the Windies cricket board only announced their side for the first two T20Is of the series, in a notable change, it saw the return of Nicholas Pooran and swashbuckling all-rounder Andre Russell. The likes of Pooran, Russell, Akeal Hosein and Shimron Hetmyer had missed the T20I series in Sri Lanka due to personal reasons.
The T20 team is our most settled team: Daren Sammy
Moreover, the side have also added Matthew Forde as Alzarri Joseph misses out after being handed two-match ban due to a controversial on-field argument with skipper Shai Hope in the third ODI. Speaking after the announcement, West Indies head Coach Daren Sammy said as quoted in the CWI release, “The T20 team is our most settled team with lost of experienced players. However, the difficulty will be picking the 11, as every single player is challenging for a spot in the 11. As we face a very good England team, I am confident that the selected squad will continue to play a brand of cricket that allows us to win games and this series.”
