Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna along with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden surpassed the Italian challenge to clinch the Australian Open 2024 men’s doubles title on Saturday, January 27 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. While the duo beat the Italian duo Bolelli-Vavassori 7-6 (0), 7-5, Rohan Bopanna also became the oldest to win a Grand Slam.
Aged 43 years, 10 months and 23 days, the Indian star scripted history by also becoming the oldest to achieve the world number one ranking in doubles, beating the record previously held by Netherlands’ Jean-Julien Rojer, who had won the 2022 French Open men’s doubles title at the age of 40. Seeing Rohan register this incredible feat, several sports personalities from India and across, hailed the efforts and poured in wishes for the duo.
