Continuing in British Sports, Andy Murray, the British tennis star, made his final Wimbledon appearance at the Centre Court in SW19 on Thursday, July 4. In a clinical performance, Rinky Hijikata and John Peers got the better of the Murray brothers, 7-6(8-6), 6-4.

England midfielder Jude Bellingham has avoided an immediate ban after the England midfielder appeared to make an offensive gesture in his team's win over Slovakia in the UEFA Euro 2024.  This gesture led to a UEFA investigation where Bellingham was given a one-game ban which “is not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period” of a year.

Turkey's Merih Demiral handed two-game ban for celebration vs Austria

Turkey's Merih Demiral was handed a two-game ban for a certain gesture he performed during his team's round-of-16 win over Austria. UEFA confirmed on Wednesday that it had appointed an inspector to investigate Demiral, and on Friday said in a statement that he had been banned "for failing to comply with the general principles of conduct, for violating the basic rules of decent conduct, for using sports events for manifestations of a non-sporting nature and for bringing the sport of football into disrepute."

Canada coach Jesse Marsch expressed disappointment at the United States' poor performance at the Copa America. He said,  "I'd like to say that I'm only focused on what we're doing here in Canada, but obviously I'm paying attention to the U.S. men's national team as I always do, and like you, I'm sad.  I'm disappointed with the performances, the lack of discipline. Manchester City confirm signing of Vivianne Miedema on free transfer

Miedema exited from Arsenal in May after a seven-year stay after her contract expired at the end of last season.  She is the Women's Super League all-time top goalscorer scoring 79 goals, and setting the league record for the most goals scored in a single season with 22.  Miedema, who has signed a three-year contract with Man City, said, "The reason I chose City is because they have the same ambitions as me. They want to win the league and titles.

Golden State Warriors acquire Buddy Hield in sign-in-trade

The Golden State Warriors are set to acquire Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers as multiple media reports. For Hield the Warriors will send a 2031 second-round pick they got from the Dallas Mavericks in the sign-and-trade deal for Klay Thompson. The  31-year-old will earn $18 million over the first two years and a $3 million partial guarantee for 2026-27, per ESPN.

British hurdles runner Andrew Pozzi has retired from athletics after a serious ankle fracture that halted his 15-year-long career. Confirming his retirement, Pozzi said,  "I'm immensely proud of the progress that I have made this season and the level that I was once again able to reach.  Unfortunately, as I continued to build and improve upon my 13.23s clocking in Montgeron my body gave way in training to another serious ankle fracture.  I have decided that now is the right time for me to retire from professional athletics. This is a profoundly sad moment, but also one that I can embrace fully, with the knowledge that I have approached every minute of my time in this sport with uncompromising focus."

Andy Murray, the British tennis star, made his final Wimbledon appearance at the Centre Court in SW19 on Thursday, July 4. After losing the first-round doubles match alongside his brother Jamie Murray in straight sets against Rinky Hijikata and John Peers, the 37-year-old teared up during a thunderous applause from the home fans and family inside the stadium.  In a clinical performance, Rinky Hijikata and John Peers got the better of the crowd favourites, the Murray brothers, 7-6(8-6), 6-4.
