As of writing this, Virat Kohli is in the midst of a good partnership for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer after both the Indian openers were dismissed within 100 runs on the scorecard. Earlier, it was the captain of India, Rohit Sharma, who won the toss and decided to bat first on a decent pitch for batting. He started the innings in his usual attacking ways, scoring boundaries at will in the first few overs delivered by the South African bowlers.

But Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the sixth over of the innings by Kagiso Rabada, finding the captain Temba Bavuma at mid-off, after scoring 40 runs in just 24 balls, an innings which included six fours and two maximums. Shortly afterward, in the 11th over, Keshav Maharaj castled Shubman Gill, who scored 23 off 24, with a beautiful delivery, which spun off the straight to miss the bat by inches.
