The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will finally go head-to-head in an ODI match after 2019 in the Asia Cup 2023. The tournament which commenced in Pakistan on August 30, India are taking on arch-rivals in a high-octane match at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
The Men in Blue won the toss and opted to bat first but what was shocking was that Shardul Thakur was picked over Mohammad Shami in the XI. This move did not go down well with the fans as several were left in shock on this decision of the team management.

Mohammad Shami would’ve been more threatening: Sanjay Manjrekar
Former India cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar also opened up on this move of dropping Shami from the Playing XI. The former cricketer while commentating said, “Mohammad Shami would’ve been more threatening to Pakistan than Shardul Thakur.”
Manjrekar believes that not only does the batting depth matters, the “bowling depth matters too”.
Talking about Shami’s numbers against Pakistan in ODIs, the 32-year-old has scalped five wickets in the three innings with an average of 21.4 and an economy of 3.82.
