In the opening clash of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 between the U.S.A and Canada on Sunday morning (IST), the co-hosts thrashed Canada by seven wickets with 14 balls to spare as their top-order batter Aaron Jones wreaked havoc at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Jones smashed 10 sixes and four boundaries in his unbeaten innings.
Aaron Jones, who came to bat at No.4 when USA were 42-2 in 6.3 overs while chasing 195 runs, played an unbeaten knock of 94 runs in just 40 balls, scoring at a strike rate of 235. Aaron Jones and Andries Gous (65 off 46) combined for a 131-run partnership for the third wicket to ensure the United States of America's victory in the World Cup opener.
With Jones' heroics, USA chased down 195 in just 17.4 overs, their highest ever successful total in T20I history while it was also the third-highest successful chase in men's T20 World Cup history. Apart from that, Jones joined West Indies legend Chris Gayle in the list of most sixes in a single T20 World Cup match. Chris Gayle smashed 11 sixes in 2016 world cup while Jones' 10 sixes against Canada made him the joint-second in the list as Chris Gayle smashed 10 in a game during the inaugural T20 World Cup.
