Shamar Joseph, the West Indies fast bowler, is a new rising sensation in cricket, who has helped his team secure a famous Test victory at the Gabba in Brisbane against Australia by eight runs. The 24-year-old picked up eight wickets in the Test match versus Australia, to ensure the first win down under for the West Indies in 27 years.
The Guyanese-born cricketer was adjudicated as the Player of the Match for picking up a seven-wicket haul in the Australian second innings, brushing aside the fact that he was in some pain from a Mitchell Starc yorker crushing his toe a day prior. Shamar Joseph was also given the Player of the Series award for picking up 13 wickets in four innings at an average of 17.30, apart from scoring valuable runs lower down the order, 57 runs at an average of 28.50.
