On Tuesday, April 1, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has moved to Lucknow as the Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. However, both the teams are coming off a win in their respective last matches, they will aim to continue this momentum in order to get two more points under their belt.
As the two skippers took the field for the toss, PBKS skipper, Shreyas Iyer returned on top. After going for the call, Iyer decided to bowl first, thus inviting the hosts to put the score first on the board. The middle-order batter’s decision followed a new pitch and new conditions to pick fielding first.
Lockie Ferguson makes PBKS debut; replaces Azmatullah Omarzai in XI
When asked of the team combination, Shreyas Iyer confirmed a change in his Playing XI. He confirmed that Lockie Ferguson will make his debut for PBKS, replacing Azmatullah Omarzai in the lineup. “We are going to bowl first. It's a new ground, new pitch, dew could be a factor as well and this being a red-soil pitch, we want to chase. The players have the freedom to express themselves. You have to play the situation, the important goal is to win. We try to keep things simple. We don't know how the pitch is going to play but we have to adjust quickly. Lockie comes into the team,” Iyer said at the toss.
On the other hand, Pant-led LSG are going with the same XI after returning victorious against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last match.
