Rashid Khan has become a massive figure in Team Afghanistan and frachise cricket after his 10 years of diligence in competitive cricket. In IPL, he has established himself as a prominent spinner, who has the potential to win games for his team. Back in 2017, Rashid’s IPL career kicked off with Sunriser Hyderabad (SRH) and he made his debut memorable with his superb bowling performances. Bagging 17 wickets in 14 matches at an economy 6.62, he ended up as the sixth-leading wicket-taker in the competition. He served the 2016 IPL champions until 2021. The Afghan became a part of Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022 and since then, he has done an exceptional job for the team.

In February 2025, Rashid Khan became the most-successful bowler in T20s after dismissing Dunith Wellalage in the 2025 SA20 playoff game between MI Cape Town (MICT) and Paarl Royals. He surpassed former West Indies pacer Dwayne Bravo to achieve the feat. In his 10-year professional career in competitive cricket, Rashid has claimed 634 wickets in 462 T20s at an economy of 6.49. The star Afghan player also guided MICT to their maiden title victory with his extraordinary captaincy in the SA20 League 2025. Noting his recent success, the question arises whether MI will look to sign him for their IPL team in the near future. Rashid’s allegiance for MICT and sensational IPL record can’t rule out the aforementioned possibility as he has performed brilliantly in India’s franchise T20 league over the years.

Reasons why Rashid Khan might become part of MI in IPL

In franchise cricket, Rashid Khan is associated with Mumbai Indians (MI)-owned franchises in different leagues. Back in August 2022, MICT signed up the wrist spinner for the SA20 League. During MICT’s 2025 campaign, he was seen leading from the front. The 26-year-old contributed 12 wickets in 11 games at an economy of 7.00. Rashid is also a vital member of MI Emirates in ILT20 and MI New York in Major League Cricket (MLC). Ahead of the inaugural season of MLC in 2023, MI acquired the Afghan stalwart’s services.

In MI New York’s scintillating trophy win in the opening season, the leggie chipped in with eight wickets in six outings at an economy of 6.83. Recently, MI acquired a stake in The Hundred team Oval Invincibles in February 2025, and after a few days, Rashid was signed by MI for the 2025 edition of the English franchise league.
