Rohit Sharma and Co. lost their second consecutive World Test Championship Final, after earlier been beaten by New Zealand by eight wickets. The Men in Blue failed to chase the target set by Australians of 444 runs, needing 280 runs in the final day of the WTC Final 2023.
While Virat Kohli was dismissed at the score of 49 after successfully surviving the opening hour of the day, courtesy Steve Smith’s blinder at slips, Ravindra Jadeja soon followed for a duck. The Indian line-up collapsed as Australian bowlers struck all seven wickets in the first session of Day 5 to lift the WTC Final trophy.
Seeing this performance with a side that boasts some big names, former India head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri added that winning ICC trophies is not an easy job. The former cricketer turned commentator while adding this heaped praise of former India skipper MS Dhoni stating that he made it look easy.
“Winning ICC trophies is not that easy, Mahendra Singh Dhoni made it look easy,” Shastri said while commentating alongside Justin Langer.
It is to be noted that with this win, Australia has become the first team to win all ICC trophies. The beat India by 209 runs to lift the WTC Final on June 11 in what was their first appearance in the WTC Final. Travis Head claimed the Player of the Match trophy after playing a crucial knock of 163 off 174 deliveries in the first innings.
