India’s young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is set to begin his second cricketing season with the first Test against Bangladesh is on the cusp of creating history. Rohit Sharma-led side will be back in cricketing action after 45 days when they clash against South Asian counterparts Bangladesh in a two-match series. The first match of the series will begin on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
In the BCCI’s 16-man squad, young left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the players who everyone will be looking forward to. Jaiswal is on the cusp of creating history at this early stage of his career, and he will be eyeing adding another feather to his hat in the upcoming Test.
Yashasvi Jaiswal set to overtake Ajinkya Rahane’s Test record
The 22-year-old batter is just 132 runs away from another historical feat at this stage of his career. Notably, the Rajasthan Royals batter has recorded 1028 runs in the World Test Championship 2023-25. If he manages to score 132 runs across two matches in the series against Bangladesh, he will overtake Ajinkya Rahane and have 1160 runs. Jaiswal will become the Indian batter with the most number of runs in a single WTC cycle. Currently, Rahane holds the record with 1159 runs, which he scored during the 2019-21 cycle.
Not only this, but Jaiswal is one of the three batters apart from Rahane and current skipper Rohit Sharma to score 1000 runs in a single WTC cycle.
Yashasvi Jaiswal on the verge of breaking two major records
In addition to achieving one major feat as an Indian batter, Jaiswal can potentially break two more records. The batter is currently the joint-second highest run-scorer in the WTC 2023-25 cycle with 1028 runs alongside Ben Duckett. The list is being led by Joe Root with 1398 runs and if Jaiswal scores 371 runs in the forthcoming series, he will overtake the Englishman.
Moreover, the Indian batter can potentially break another major record and become the player with the most number of sixes in a Test cycle. The Mumbai batter currently has 25 sixes and if he manages to slam nine more sixes, he will reach the top of the standings, currently headed by Brendon McCullum with 33 maximums.
