After a poor show in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, the Indian cricket team will look to better things seeing the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy ahead. The marquee tournament is set to be played from February 19 onwards, with the final set to be played on March 9.
As the torunament comes closer, all eight teams are set to submit their squad by January 12. Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to be added in India’s squad for Champions Trophy
According to reports quoting RevSportz, Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to get selected for the ODI series against England and the 2025 Champions Trophy. These reports come after Jaiswal had memorable tour down under, scoring 391 runs across five Tests. He also finished as the second-highest run-getter in the 2024-25 edition of BGT after Travis Head.
The left-handed batter kicked off the series with a 161-run knock in India’s second innings in perth, and then struggled in the next two Tests, before bouncing back in Melbourne Test. He came up with a knock of 82 and 84 in the Boxing Day Test.
Jasprit Bumrah likely to be named India’s vice-captain for Champions Trophy 2025
According to a report in The Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently recovering from back spasms following the grueling Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, is likely to be named as Rohit Sharma's deputy for the upcoming Champions Trophy. This decision suggests that the selectors may overlook Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, both of whom previously served as India’s vice-captains during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
