Former India opening batter Virender Sehwag had a hilarious response to Sri Lankan spin-bowling legend Muttiah Muralitharan, who didn't pick his own country in his list of four possible semi-finalists for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Sehwag and Muralitharan were conversing at an ICC media event where the schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023 was announced.
After the fixture list was released, Muralitharan was asked to pick his four possible semi-finalists. The star off-spinner responded by picking India, Australia, England and Pakistan as his possible four contenders. Reacting to this comment, Sehwag quickly jumped and jokingly asked him to lie a bit and also Sri Lanka. He said, " At least you can lie a bit and add Sri Lanka."
Similarly, the former India international also named five-time champs, defending champions, the 1992 winners and the hosts as his picks. Further, the pair also named the top batters and bowlers in the tournament.
Sehwag picked the Indian duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma with Australian opener David Warner as his top three players with the bat. While Murli also went with Virat Kohli but later he picked Pakistan captain Babar Azam and England star Joe Root.
Talking about the highest-wicket taker of the World Cup, Sehwag picked Indian fast bowler Jasprith Bumrah as his pick. While the Sri Lankan star picked Rashid Khan of Afghanistan.
