Ex-Manchester United player and pundit Gary Neville has blasted Chelsea and their co-owner Todd Boehly after their 4-1 loss against Arsenal and has urged the American co-owner to stop ‘meddling’. Chelsea was three down in 34 minutes at the Emirates and conceded a 3-1 defeat which was their sixth loss in a row across all competitions.
The Todd Boehly-led consortium completed the £4.25bn takeover of Chelsea in May last year which ended Roman Abramovich's 19-year ownership of the club. Since Todd Boehly took over, Chelsea has spent over £ 600 million in transfers and fired the Champions League-winning manager Thomas Tuchel.
"Disgusting," said, Neville when asked about Chelsea's performance at Arsenal. "It was the best team on paper I've ever seen play as badly as that. It was a shambles in the first half. Pathetic.” The pundit has heavily criticized Boehly for taking part in the footballing decisions.
Neville said, “ You're the owner. You're not a player or a coach. You've got no experience in this league so stay where you are and allow the people to run the football club [who have done so] successfully over the last 10 years.”
He also said that World class players can’t stoop to this level and that the chaos around the club has not done them any favours. Gary Neville further mentioned three names who have played a part in the team's success Petr Cech, Marina Granovskaia, and Thomas Tuchel who are no longer a part of the club, and then how Chelsea suddenly handed out long-term contracts to players.
Benoit Badiashile, David Fofana, and Mykhailo Mudryk are some of the players that have signed contracts beyond five years. This way the club are dodging the FFP set by UEFA. However, Neville still thinks Chelsea will be back in the top four next season and challenge for trophies with Mauricio Pochettino frontrunner to be the coach.
