Indian ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s daughter had a special message for the cricketer who called time on his international career on Wednesday, December 18. The spinning wizard who was a part of India’s Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, made a surprising announcement following the conclusion of the third Test at The Gabba. As the Brisbane Test ended in a draw after rain played spoilsport, Ashwin announced his decision of pulling down curtains on his legendary 13-year-long career with team India.

The cricketer left for home on the same day and received a grand welcome on reaching Chennai. He also shared a post on social media with a placard that his daughter held during his welcome at home. The placard read, “Thank you AshNa. You have the streets!” It is to be noted that the bowler retired from international cricket as India’s second highest wicket-taker in Tests with 537 scalps, sitting just behind legendary Anil Kumble with 619 scalpes. In the ongoing series, the cricketer featured in only one of the three Tests in Australia, and the pink-ball Test marked his last appearance in India colours.

Thanks for not sunning me out this day: Aaron Finch shares cheeky retirement message for R Ashwin

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch shared a cheeky message for Indian spin maestro and paid a heartfelt yet playful tribute to the bowler. Finch took to social media and lauded the 38-year-old as “one of the greats,” while reminiscing about the challenges and joys of playing alongside the off-spinner. Finch shared a picture from the Indian Premier League 2020 when Royal Challengers Bengaluru clashed against Delhi Capitals in Dubai.

The incident became a symbol of mutual respect and camaraderie between Finch and Ashwin. The picture showed Ashwin warning Finch of executing the ‘Mankad’ dismissal. Finch captioned the picture, “One of the all-time careers. Congratulations, R. Ashwin. It was a pleasure to play with and against you. PS: Thanks for not running me out this day!” On X, he wrote, “Congratulations @ashwinravi99 (Ashwin)You’ve been one of the greats and it was a pleasure to play with and against you!”
