Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) have confirmed that the national team will be playing home Tests and T20I tri-series versus South Africa and New Zealand this year. The upcoming winter of cricket for Zimbabwe will begin with a two-match Test series against South Africa in June before taking on their near neighbours and New Zealand in a T20I tri-series, and following that, the BlackCaps will stay around for a two-match Test series.
Notably, as per the report from Cricbuzz, Zimbabwe are set to welcome South Africa for a Test series on their shores for the first-time since 2014, with the first Test starting on June 28 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo before the same venue gets to host the second Test on July 6. The T20I tri-series, which will have seven matches including the final, is set to go down in its entirety at the Harare Sports Club with the opening match between Zimbabwe and South Africa on July 14.
Hosting South Africa and New Zealand is a fantastic development: Zimbabwe managing director
Once each of the three teams play one another twice in the group stage of the T20I tri-series, with an eye on preparing for the T20 World Cup next year, the top two in the points table will compete in the final on 26 July. Thereafter, New Zealand will take on Zimbabwe in the first of two Test matches starting on July 30 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo before the second Test begins on August 7.
Givemore Makoni, the managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket, was quoted as saying about the new development, “Hosting South Africa and New Zealand for both Test cricket and an exciting T20I tri-series is a fantastic development for the growth of the game in Zimbabwe. We are looking forward to welcoming the teams and putting on a great spectacle for our passionate cricket fans.”
Moreover, the upcoming T20I tri-series set to be hosted by Zimbabwe later this year, is going to be the first one since 2018 when Australia and Pakistan visited the country.
