The new edition of the Road Safety World Series is reportedly set to start on June 4th across three venues in India. As per reports, Lucknow, Indore and Jodhpur have been decided as three venues where the 2nd edition of the tournament featuring legends of the game will take place. Earlier, the tournament was reported to be held in the month of February.
The previous edition of the tournament featured greats of the game like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Jonty Rhodes, Herschelle Gibbs, Virender Sehwag. As many as seven teams, including the legends from India, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa, England and Bangladesh, participated in the inaugural edition in a round-robin format and Indian Legends, led by Sachin Tendulkar, lifted the title by defeating Sri Lanka Legends. En route to the final, India Legends won all their matches, barring one defeat to England Legends, with Tendulkar having a fine run with 233 runs. He was the third-highest run-scorer behind Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga.
The inaugural edition was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the tournament was suspended midway and resumed a year later in 2021. Tendulkar, who was also the brand ambassador of the tournament's inaugural edition, reportedly called off his association with the tournament. The Master blaster pulled out of the upcoming season of the Road Safety World Series due to non-payment issues.
Addition of new team in Road Safety World Series
Notably, New Zealand Legends are the new team in this edition and they will join the Legends from India, Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and England during the tournament. The Road Safety World Series will be played from June 4 till July 3, 202.
