Sri Lanka batter Dhananjaya de Silva became a victim of a rather unfortunate dismissal which made for a rather hilarious viewing on the television sets and the big screen. It happened during the first batting innings of the Test match against West Indies when the batter was trying to prevent the ball from hitting the stumps but ended up dislodging the bails with his own bat and had to depart adjudged hit wicket.
De Dilva came in to bat at number five and was looking in fine form having already completed his half-century before he got out in the 95th over being bowled by Shannon Gabriel. In the delivery in which he was dismissed the Sri Lankan batter had inside-edged the ball and as it bounced on the pitch, it was heading towards the stumps.
Almost as an instinct, De Silva tried to stop the ball from heading towards the wickets and used his bat to hit the ball but he wasn't successful making a couple of attempts and ended up hitting his own wickets.
The video of his dismissal has now emerged. Check it out here:
This is the second instance in Test matches that Dhananjaya has been out hit wicket. He also became the second Sri Lankan cricketer after Romesh Kaluwitharana to be dismissed hit wicket twice in the longest format of the game.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Solozano who made a horror Test debut for West Indies in this match and had to be rushed to a hospital after being hit on the front part of his helmet while fielding at short leg has been diagnosed with a concussion. The update was provided from Cricket West Indies.
