India’s ace badminton player Lakshya Sen stormed into the final of the ongoing Super 500 Canada Open on Saturday, July 8 after beating fourth seeded Kenta Nishimoto of Japan. The Indian beat his Japanese opponent in straight sets with the scoreline of 21-17, 21-14 in the semifinal in around 44 minutes in Calgary.
The 2022 Commonwealth gold medallist will now face reigning All England champion Li Shi Feng of China on Sunday, July 9 in what is the Indian shuttler’s second appearance in the final of the BWF World Tour Super 500 event.
Notably, PV Sindhu, the other Indian who had cruised into the semifinals, bowed out of the tournament with a loss to top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. The former world champion fell 14-21, 15-21 to the reigning World Champion of Japan in the women’s singles semifinal match.
