Injuries are common in sports like wrestling, MMA and more, however, some of the worst injuries of sports are also witnessed in field sports like football, cricket, rugby among others. In the year 2022, many famous athletes have suffered gruesome injuries that forced them out of the sports action for a long time.

Many footballers suffered injuries before the starting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and lost their chance to feature in Qatar, however, stars like Heung min-Son, who played the entire World Cup wearing a face guard, came back from injury to help his team reach the knockouts. Similarly, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi also made comeback from his injury during the T20 World Cup 2022 but ended up suffering another knee injury.

Charlotte Hornets star guard LaMelo Ball sprained his ankle in a preseason game against the Washington Wizards, which caused him to miss the first 13 games of the season.

Chamika Karunaratne

Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne  injured himself while trying to take a catch during  Kandy Falcons’ match against Galle Gladiators in the  Lanka Premier League 2022.  Karunaratne took a blow on his face as the ball first fell on his mouth and then rolled into his arms. There was blood also seen coming out of the fielder’s mouth and later it was revealed that  Chamika broke his four teeth  in the process.

Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand

The FIFA World Cup 2022 group stage match between Iran and England on Monday, November 21 saw  Iraninan goalkeeper  Alireza Beiranvand suffering a bleeding nose  after colliding  with teammate Majid Hosseini while saving the cross pass in the early stages of the game.

During Athletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final on January 14, 2022, Atleti defender Jose Maria Gimenez caught Inigo Martinez in the face with his boot and saw red after a VAR review. Athletic Bilbao defeated 10-man Athletico de Madrid by 2-1 to face Real Madrid in the final.

Tua Tagovailoa

During the NFL game between Miami Dolphins and  Cincinnati Bengals on September 29, Miami  quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was rushed to a local hospital after suffering a horrific head and neck injury on a second-quarter sack.  Tagovailoa snapped the back of his head  on the ground as Bengals nose tackle Josh Tupou took him down. Moments later, the fingers of both his hands were up in a rigid position.
