In the Group 2 matches scheduled on Sunday, Bangladesh, Pakistan and South Africa have come out victorious in their respective matches against Zimbabwe, Netherlands and India. While 2 out of 3 results have ended in favour of Pakistan, India losing to South Africa has dented Pakistan’s chances of entering the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Does Pakistan still have a chance to qualify for the knock-out stage of the tournament? Here in this article, we will have a look at the permutations and combinations through which the Men in Green can still reach the final 4 stage of the marquee event.
Group-2 matches remaining schedule of T20 WC 2022:
– ZIM vs NED in Adelaide at 2nd Nov, 9:30 AM
– IND vs BAN in Adelaide at 2nd Nov, 1:30 PM
– PAK vs SA in Sydney at 3rd Nov, 1:30 PM
– SA vs NED in Adelaide at 6th Nov, 5:30 AM
– PAK vs BAN in Adelaide at 6th Nov, 9:30 AM
– IND vs ZIM in Melbourne at 6th Nov, 1:30 PM
Pakistan maximum can reach 6 points by winning their remaining two games against SA & BAN.
Now, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and South Africa shouldn’t go past Pakistan in the Points table if India is about to go past the 6-point mark. South Africa already have 5 points in their kitty, thus they must lose all their remaining games of T20 WC 2022.
Looking at all these for Pakistan to qualify these things should happen
– Pakistan beat both South Africa and Bangladesh
– India beat both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe
– Netherlands must beat South Africa.
If all these happen then the points table will be
India – 8 pts
Pakistan – 6 pts
South Africa – 5 pts
Zimbabwe – 5 pts (max.)
Bangladesh – 4 pts
Netherlands – 4 pts (max.)
Note:- ZIM vs NED game alone will be irrelevant to Pakistan’s qualification chances if India can defeat Zimbabwe later.
