The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (31 October) announced India’s squads for two upcoming tours – New Zealand and Bangladesh. As the Men in Blue are due to play a white-ball series with New Zealand right after the T20 World Cup, the BCCI Selection Committee has decided to rest its senior players. However, for the Bangladesh tour, a full-strength side was announced.
As the four squads were announced, everyone looked for a couple of names who were recently ruled out of action with injuries. Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, and Jasprit Bumrah were the three names people came looking for. While Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja’s names were included in the four squads, Jasprit Bumrah’s name was not there meaning the star pacer won’t be seen in action for another two months.
Chief Selector Chetan Sharma then cleared the air on when Bumrah will return to action during the press conference. Sharma revealed that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical team is closely monitoring Bumrah’s progress, and the pacer is expected to return to mainstream action somewhere around February. He said that the board doesn’t want to hurry things as it did before.
“We need to manage players. We need to look at the workload management of players and we take it very seriously. The NCA medical team is looking after Bumrah very well. He will definitely be part of the side against Australia. We do not want to rush things with him this time as we did before. So we’ve been cautious with him for the Bangladesh series. He will be back soon,” InsideSport quoted Chetan Sharma saying.
Meanwhile, talking about Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder will undergo a fitness test before flying with the team to Bangladesh. Notably, Jadeja suffered an injury to his knee during the Asia Cup 2022 and was immediately ruled out. The all-rounder has now been included in both the ODI and Test squads against Bangladesh.
