Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2021 Players Auction. The right-arm spinner has had a great record in T20 competitions around the globe but couldn't quite make his presence felt after an impressive season with the Punjab Kings. This is because being an overseas option, he did not quite get as many opportunities that would give him to settle and bring his A-game to the table.

Although there is little doubt over the proven match-winners utility it was still a little surprising that SRH went for Mujeeb given that they already have overseas options like Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan in their squad. SRH spent INR 1.5 crores to have him in their ranks.

Mujeeb will add depth to the SRH squad: Moody

In a recent video, Sunrisers Hyderabad Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, has explained the team's decision to go for Mujeeb.

"From the overseas perspective, having Mujeeb there(in the side). He is obviously a very very effective T20 bowler and he has shown that throughout his franchise career and obviously playing for Afghanistan. I think he gives us greater depth and certainly, he is going to keep everyone on their toes to you know try and keep their spot in the eleven."

SRH will begin their IPL campaign against KKR on April 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
