Preview: The wake-up alarm has died down but the late starters of the Indian T20 League, Mumbai, are still finding it hard to come out of their dreams. The five-time tournament champions have suffered three back-to-back defeats in the UAE leg of the ongoing edition. Another loss might see their dream of lifting a hat-trick title coming to a premature end.
Talking about their opponents, Punjab, the side is at a similar stage as that of Mumbai but they are coming on the back of a 5-run win over Hyderabad which would have boosted their morale, especially after the embarrassing loss they suffered at the hands of Rajasthan.
It is, for sure, an uphill task for Mumbai but this is where they show their best game as defying the odds is certainly the thing the team loves the most. History is a telling example of how Mumbai have turned the tables, time and again. Saying so, it cannot be denied that the other team is equally capable of producing a dominant game. And Keeping in mind that Punjab also need the win as badly as Mumbai, the game on Tuesday is going to be one to watch.
Teams’ current status in points table:
Mumbai: 8 points from 10 matches
Punjab: 8 points from 10 matches
Team News:
Mumbai- Rohit Sharma got injured in the previous game after getting hit at non-striker end by Ishan Kishan’s shot. The injury looked prima facie serious, but an update on it is still awaited. Taking about players’ performance, Adam Milne has been out of form in the last two games, he might be dropped to give Nathan Coulter-Nile a place in playing XI.
Punjab- It will be interesting to see whether Chris Gayle could deliver once again for Punjab in the UAE leg as well. The first game post resumption didn’t go well for him, and honestly, he couldn’t be blamed much for that as the pitch was really difficult to bat on. On the other hand, the result of the game on Tuesday will also rely heavily on the partnership of openers Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul.
