The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are on the look out for a new captain for IPL 2025 after releasing KL Rahul ahead of the mega auction for undisclosed reasons. Rahul performed well for LSG, leading the team to the playoffs twice in just three seasons (2022 and 2023). However, in IPL 2024, the team didn’t meet fans' expectations and failed to reach the playoffs.

Now, LSG is focusing on building a strong team around the young core they have retained, including Nicholas Pooran, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, and Ayush Badoni. Their goal is to create a competitive squad during the IPL 2025 mega auction, which will take place on November 24-25 in Saudi Arabia. One of their biggest challenges is finding the right captain to lead the team. Check out the three players who could potentially lead LSG in IPL 2025.

3 Players who can lead LSG in IPL 2025

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran, the West Indian power-hitter, is LSG’s top retention for INR 21 Crore. He has been an important player for LSG since joining them in IPL 2023, scoring 857 runs in 29 matches. Last season, he scored 499 runs with an impressive strike rate of 178.21 and an average of 62.37. With his outstanding performance and experience in various leagues around the world, Pooran could be a strong candidate to lead LSG in IPL 2025.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler, the current England T20I captain, is one of the hottest foreign batting options in the IPL 2025 mega auction. After being released by Rajasthan Royals, many teams, including LSG, are likely to show interest in this destructive wicketkeeper-batter. Buttler has a lot of captaincy experience and could bring both leadership and powerful batting to the team. However, with multiple teams eyeing him, LSG will need to be prepared for a bidding war as he is expected to go for around INR 15 Crore in the auction.

Shreyas Iyer

The release of Shreyas Iyer, despite leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 title, has surprised many fans. The 29-year-old star Indian batter is now available at a base price of INR 2 Crore, and several teams, including LSG, RCB, DC, and PBKS, are interested in signing him. Iyer has scored 3,127 runs in 116 IPL matches and led KKR to a title, making him a potential replacement for KL Rahul at LSG. However, securing Iyer will not be easy, as he is expected to go for more than INR 18 Crore in the auction.
