The mega auction for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is  likely  to be scheduled for November 2024. All the 10 franchises have confirmed their retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. As other franchises have tried to retain their best Indian as well as foreign players, Punjab Kings (PBKS) showed faith in two uncapped cricketers, Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh. PBKS have retained only these two cricketers for the IPL 2025 mega auction, letting go of their key players from both overseas and India.

After the retirement of Shikhar Dhawan, PBKS will first look for a player who could lead their team in IPL 2025. Sam Curran, who was a contender for captaincy after Dhawan’s retirement, has also been released by the franchise and PBKS will look to form a new team in the mega auction with a purse of ₹110.5 Crore. In the following listicle, we will have a look at the three players who can lead PBKS in IPL 2025.

KL Rahul was a crucial player for PBKS before he joined Lucknow Super Giants as a skipper ahead of IPL 2022. He also led PBKS in 2020 and 2021 and is still the highest run-scorer for the franchise with 2548 runs in 55 matches from 2018 to 2021. He also had a good outing as skipper for LSG, leading the franchise to playoffs in 2022 and 2023. Now, as KL Rahul is coming for the mega auction again after getting released by LSG, PBKS may look to get him back in their squad and appoint him as a skipper for IPL 2025.
