The T20
World Cup 2022 is at its final stage, wherein Pakistan and England will be up
against each other for taking the trophy home. On the other hand, teams like
Australia and South Africa faced a shocking exit from the Super 12 stage owing to
them falling short on crunch moments. On the other hand, India and New Zealand lost
the semi-finals and could not stake their claim to the coveted trophy.
With the
conclusion of the showpiece event, few players from each team are expected to call
time on their T20I career. It may depend on their personal performances, motives
in the near future and also looking at the team’s combinations. Here are a few of
the players who might retire from the T20Is and not feature in the T20 World Cup 2024.
1. Rohit
Sharma
The Indian skipper has been terrific with his leadership, especially in the bilateral series. In 51 T20Is, he has captained India to 39 victories with a winning percentage of 76.47, since taking over this role. However, the 35-year-old has failed to get enough victories under his belt in the T20 World Cups. The 2021 edition saw the Men in Blue crashing out of the Super 12 stage while losing two of their three matches.
In the 2022
season, the Indian team did well, but could not prevail against England in the
penultimate stage. Furthermore, he was precarious with his batting performances
garnering only 116 runs in six innings. The leadership failure and dismal form
with the bat could pave way for Sharma to retire from the shortest format.
