Mumbai Indians (MI), the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, haven’t been at the top of the mountain for the last five years, but despite that, they are still among one of the best batting lineups in the competition. With few of the top batters from the Indian cricket team set up already in their squad, MI will be hoping for some of their overseas recruits to stand up, which could go a long way in winning the coveted IPL trophy in quite some time.
In this article, SportsTiger picks the five top batters in the IPL 2025 squad of MI.
5 Top batters in MI’s IPL 2025 squad
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is one of the best batters in the world in all formats of the game, but the 37-year-old hasn’t quite performed to his full potential for MI in quite some time. This has meant that the franchise aren’t getting quality starts from the top of the order on a regular basis in recent seasons, and subsequently, it has led to them losing more matches than winning, which is something he will look to rectify in the IPL 2025 season.
Ryan Rickelton
Ryan Rickelton, 28, is one of the newest overseas batting recruits of MI after making a big name for himself in the franchise and international level over the past couple of years. The left-handed batter is arguably in the form of his life, and he is expected to open the batting for the franchise along with Rohit Sharma, and some fiery starts from him at the top of the order could go a long way in defining the team’s upcoming IPL season.
Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma was one of the best batters for MI in the last season of the IPL, and he carried his form into T20I cricket, scoring a couple of hundreds for India in the format in South Africa. The MI team management will be hoping that the 21-year-old will hit his straps from the get-go in the IPL 2025 season, controlling the middle overs with the bat alongside Suryakumar Yadav.
Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya, 31, had a torrid time as the new captain of MI after replacing Rohit Sharma in the role last year, getting booed constantly throughout the IPL 2024 season, and it didn’t help him individually or as a leader of the franchise. After that, the all-rounder played a key role for India in winning back-to-back ICC trophies, and his individual performance improved drastically as well, which he will look to keep up in the IPL 2025 with MI.
Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav has been amongst the best batters in T20 format for the last four years or so, but he wasn’t quite up to speed in the IPL last year due to injury and indifferent form. With that, the 34-year-old will be motivated to set the record straight in the IPL 2025 with the bat, and help MI win the coveted trophy for the first-time in five years.
