IPL 2025 might be the last appearance for some prominent players in the cash-rich league as these players are either struggling with their form or age. In the past, they performed exceptionally and established themselves as massive figures in the marquee T20 tournament. However, performance of these players plummeted in the last few seasons which might lead them to retire from the league after showing up in this season.
6. Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma became part of Gujarat Titans (GT) for IPL 2025 in the auction and the pacer will look to showcase his bowling brilliance in the upcoming T20 event. In the last few seasons, the lanky pacer has looked out of rhythm and if that happens again this year, he might be seen hanging up his boots from the league.
5. Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali will don Kolkata Knight Riders’ jersey this season. Former England all-rounder was associated with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) until 2024 and he struggled to be among the runs and wickets in the last two IPL editions. Moeen is already 37 and if he continues to be ineffective this year, he might also retire from the distinguished league.
4. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin will reunite with Ravindra Jadeja to bolster CSK’s spin-bowling attack. The veteran will make a comeback in the Yellow Army after 10 years. Ashwin’s form has witnessed a slump in recent years and if it continues to happen in the upcoming event, the 38-year-old might bring down curtains on his IPL career.
3. Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. The star Protea player is currently 40 and his age might obstruct him to take his IPL career ahead after this season. Du Plessis also looked ordinary for RCB in 2024, scoring only 438 runs in 15 contests at an underwhelming average of 29.20.
2. Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma didn’t deliver anything solid with his bat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the last three seasons but the five-time title winners retained him and showed faith in their veteran player for 2025. This year, he will endeavour to have a great time for Mumbai. Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is in June 2024 and noting that, the chances of him bidding adieu to the league can’t be ruled out.
1. MS Dhoni
Eyes will be set on MS Dhoni for the upcoming IPL season. The 43-year-old has achieved massive success in the cash-rich tournament which makes him a significant asset for Chennai. In 2024, he passed the captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad but the opener couldn’t deliver impactful results as skipper which extended Dhoni’s tenure in the side. If Gaikwad succeeds in performing magnificently as skipper this season, Dhoni may say goodbye to the league.
